Atradius looks at wider political risks and how businesses can overcome problems presented by tariffs and non-tariff political barriers.

The global pandemic has presented a stark reminder to businesses throughout the world of how political decisions can impact cash flow. Looking ahead through 2021 as markets begin to recover from the pandemic crisis, Atradius will use its latest virtual event to look at wider political risks and how businesses can overcome problems presented by tariffs and non-tariff political barriers.

The leading credit insurer has drawn together a panel of experts to explore where the opportunities lie for export businesses, and will ask ‘can exporters feel upbeat about the coming months?’ Will tariffs continue to affect trade worldwide, or will the global agenda feature a phasing out of such trade restrictions and costs? Will the centre of global trade shift further towards Asia and how may businesses outside of APAC maximise opportunities in this market?

In this, the second of their four-part webinar series, From crisis to opportunity: What’s the future of trade?, Atradius, will explore these questions and more with a panel of thought leaders.  These include geopolitical analyst and commentator, Dr John Hulsman, leading international trade adviser Lesley Batchelor and trade risk expert, Gordon Cessford, the Atradius Regional Director in the Americas.

Christine Gerryn, Director of Group Communication & Commercial Development at Atradius said: “This webinar provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about issues such as what US and China relations may look like under President Biden, how European trade will evolve post-Brexit and how businesses may negotiate tariffs and take advantage of regional trade agreements throughout the world.  Atradius analysts believe Asia may present the greatest trading risks and rewards in the coming months and years. But what do our panel think? The first event of the series was very well received and generated a lot of positive feedback from our audience. This second event looks like it will also raise some interesting points of discussion and promises to offer some excellent tips for exporters. I am pleased Atradius has taken the opportunity to host this event.”

Moderated by Daisy McAndrew (former Economics Editor and Chief Political Correspondent for ITV News), the expert panel will feature Dr John Hulsman (president and managing partner of John C. Hulsman Enterprises, a leading global political risk consultancy), Lesley Batchelor (head of Export Boot Camps, an ICC and ILM accredited training company that teaches business owners and managers to optimise engagement and results in international trade. She also acts as a board advisor to Bridgehead International Agency and Open Borders Direct) and Gordon Cessford (Regional Director for Atradius in North America).
